Sneak Peek: The Johns Family

Every Labor Day weekend we make the trip up to our family cabin in Fairplay.   I LOVE this tradition.  It is such a nice time to unwind with family and friends.  We roast marshmallows, tinker, relax, sleep in, eat good food and the kids spend the majority of the weekend outside getting dirty.  A good time is had by all.

Kim contacted me about family pictures and really wanted to do them over Labor Day weekend.  I was not about to drive to Denver during the weekend, so I invited her to have her pictures done up in Fairplay and she readily agreed.  I was shocked, flattered and excited.  Their little family hopped in the car on Saturday of Labor Day weekend and drove over an hour just for little ole' me.  And I am so glad.  

We went to the cabin with my sister and her kids and then some friends from the boys' school.  On Saturday we decided to be ambious and climb a 14er.  It was exhausting/exciting/excruciating/exhilarating all rolled into one!  Then I was able to capture this amazingly sweet family!  Talk about a banner day.

Another bonus for the day was that our friend's oldest daughter wants to be a photographer.  She has been/is taking photography classes in high school and wants to be a photographer!  I asked if she wanted to shadow me for the session and she agreed!  She was a big help and it was so fun to have her along.  I brought my back-up camera and let her loose.

Look at this image she got!  Way to go Madison.  I am so proud of you and knowing at such an early age what your talents and passions are.  You are about 16 years ahead of me.  I wish I would have started at your age!

I couldn't believe how photogenic this family was.  I would tell them to go sit down and they would all strike the most unbelievable pose without me having to give them any direction. They were naturals and the kids had such a love for each other it touched my heart.  Kim and Scott were so relaxed and we had a blast trolling around South Park City.  Kim, I loved your flawless styling for this session and I loved your shoes so much that I found them on sale online and ordered them.  I am anxiously awaiting their arrival!

 Kim mentioned that they didn't really like their wedding pictures.  Hopefully these will make up for it a little bit.  Aren't they the cutest couple?

Sneak Peek: The Hodges Family

Last year I was able to take pictures of this beautiful family when they added a fourth girl to the mix.  I had so much fun following the girls around and snuggling new baby Libby all at the same time.  I didn't share the session as they wanted to send out announcements and Christmas cards with the pictures and to have them be a surprise.  I complied, but it was so hard because there were so many wonderful pictures!  It killed me.

This year...I am free to share.  Halleluiah!  Once again we had a wonderful session.  I tell you what....there is a reason these guys have four kids.  It was the easiest session I have ever done with kids that small.  They listened, were polite and took direction well.  It was such a pleasure.  It also brought be joy to see them all interact together.  The girls clearly adore each other and Jon and Lindsey are so patient with them.  Did I mention that they are adorable?  They are adorable!

 Libby was more into watching the bold ducks that were nearby (probably wanting her goldfish crackers). 

Jon is a Denver Firefighter and Lindsey is a nurse practitioner.  Talk about caring people!  It was fun to have Jon get dressed up in his uniform and get some pictures with the girls. This candid one is my favorite!

See what I mean about this family?  I just wanted to take them home with me.  Hodges, it has been a pleasure to be able to watch your family grow.

Sneak Peek: Sam

I love the beginning of school.  I love going into all of the stores and finding fresh, new, school supplies.  I love the buzz in the schools and the excitement of a new year.  This year I got to start school again too!  After 11 years of being a "stay at home mom" and starting my own business, I went back into the work force.  I started working part time at D'Evelyn (the school where I taught before becoming a mom).  I didn't go back as a teacher, but as a part-time office worker.  I am in the copy room.  What?  Not teaching?  Nope.  Teaching for me was exhausting physically and even more, emotionally.  I want to be able to give my all to my kids, so full-time teaching is not in my future (I discovered after a lot of praying and soul searching).  I am thankful that I am able to work part time and help with the family bills and still have time to focus on my photography.  And after 3 weeks back to work...I LOVE it!  I love the flexibility, I love the people and I love being able to drop my kids off at school and pick them up.  It is perfect for me and I am SO thankful.

Back to photography.  This guy is excited to be starting school as a SENIOR at Littleton High School.  There is nothing better than being a senior.  Sam really wanted to have his pictures done up at Red Rocks, so on a beautiful summer evening, we headed up there.  It was a bit crowded as there was a concert later that night, but we managed just fine.  We even ran into a herd of deer who kept trying to photo bomb us.  They were pretty bold and weren't at all frightened of us, but we managed to keep them out of the pictures!

 Sam is a good kid and I loved watching he and his mom interact.  I know I keep saying that about all of my seniors, but it gives me hope for the future in that my kids MIGHT still like to hang out with me when they are 17 or 18.  Sam even let me take a picture of him with his mom! Awww.

Sneak Peek: Landon

Happy Labor Day!  I hope you all enjoyed a long weekend.  We had a busy, but wonderful weekend.  More to come (hopefully) when I am a little more caught up on my professional life!

On to sweet baby (except not really a baby anymore) Landon.

 

I love being able to watch babies grow from a tiny newborn into a walking toddler!  It is so magical to see how much they grow in just 12 short months.  I am always amazed!  This little guy is such a doll.  His mama wanted to wait for his "one year" pictures until he walked.  Well this little stinker took his time learning to walk and so we did his "one year" pictures when he was about 18 months old.  Better late than never Landon!

We got together on a beautiful Saturday morning and this little ray of sunshine performed for me.  Doesn't he just exude happiness?

 He also loved showing off his walking skills.  Way to go (finally!).

He was also baptized a few weeks ago, so we had to get a few pictures of him in his Sunday Best.  He, however, did not appreciate this outfit very much, but you wouldn't be able to tell from the pictures.  Oh the magic of the camera!

Remember this little guy's newborn pictures.  And how I struggled with how to use the suitcase?  Well, here is the same suitcase.  I love that is shows how much he has grown.

And then there is this one.  I LOVE this one.

I can't wait to continue to watch this little guy grow, and to watch his mama grow too.  Be on the lookout as there is going to be a new addition to this family in a few months!
