Labor Day Weekend

I love long weekends!  Especially when you get to spend them with friends and family.  Labor Day, we packed up the ol' minivan and headed to our family cabin in Fairplay.  It is an amazing place!  We are so thankful that we have a place that is only an hour away where we can get away from it all!

Our neighbors and my sister and her family make the trek with us.  We had so much fun!  We roasted marshmallows (or smarshmallows as JJ calls them), played games, fished, the boys and big kids went shooting (a first for most of them, and the highlight of the trip for them) and just hung out.  We had no agenda and that is just how we like it.  We took turns cooking meals and watching kids and there was a fair amount of football viewing.

On Sunday, we headed to Old South Park City, which is an old 1880's town that has been preserved.  It is so fun and the kids loved running around and touching (I love that they let you touch everything) and having a ball.  We were quite the show and there were lots of people taking pictures of our kids being silly.  Afterwards, we headed to the local sweet shop and got some ice cream.  They serve....wait for it......Jack Daniels ice cream.  Let me make myself clear.....I HATE Jack Daniels.  However, when you put it in the form of ice cream and add some chocolatey goodness.....It. Is. Amazing.  I asked about it and it is made by "Licks" and is not sold to the public.  Bummer.  I guess I will have to settle for it as a special Fairplay treat (note: my waistline is thankful that it is difficult to come by).

A good time was had by all.  The kids came home REALLY dirty and EXTREMELY tired.  Just how I like it!  They played outside all day, everyday.  It was awesome.

Makai and Ellie.  She LOVES Makai.  The feeling is mutual.

Nothing like a cute little boy and his Barbie fishing pole.

Makai is getting pretty good at casting

JT dealing cards at the saloon.  The kids got a big kick out of it.  The parents, however, didn't love the authentic naked lady picture on the wall.

AHHHHHHH.   See why we were making a spectacle?

Ice Cream

We are going up there again this weekend to cut some wood.  Anyone want to join?  We are providing drinks and food.  We are going up Friday night and coming home Saturday evening.  Bring your own chainsaw or axe (or just a good attitude and some work gloves).  The land really needs some clearing and we need to cut some firewood before the snow falls.  It should be beautiful up there this weekend with the leaves changing.  Any takers?  Might even be able to swing a trip to the ice cream place for some JD ice cream!
