The Concilios- Denver Area Head Shot Photographer

It is always nice to do something a little different for a change.  Just the other day I was thinking I wanted to do more commericial and/or branding photography.  And then these two contacted me!  I love it when things work out like that!

I have been doing family pictures for these guys for years and we have been friends for even longer than that.  I am so thankful for their love and friendship over the years!

 They are both go-getters and always have something new going on.

Erica is one of the greatest people I know and she also happens to be my Arbonne dealer.  Which is kind of like a drug dealer because Arbonne is addicting!  They have great products that are natural and healthy for your body.  Erica has been selling Arbonne for a few years now and has been incredibly successful.  So some of these head shots were for her Arbonne business.  Click here to check out her website.

James on the other hand has his hands in about 1000 pots.  He is a jack of all trades and in his own words "I love to start businesses, it is my hobby".  What a cool hobby!  He has now started a company to help other people start and grow their businesses by harnessing the power of the internet so they see impactful growth.  Check it out here.

Nana's Birth Services- Colorado Business Headshot photography

I have known Mandie from the time she was in high school!  Gosh, I can't believe it has been that long.  We have lost touch a little since then, but then a few months ago we worked together and it was wonderful to catch up.

See Mandie is a doula.  

And so is Briana. 

I have done quite a few births but until earlier this year, I had never done a birth with a doula.  I tell you what...it was an amazing experience.

Mandie brought such wisdom, strength and a sense of calm to the birthing process.  She advised, took pressure off of the husband and gave great knowledge and insight to the situation.  Especially when it came down to the fact that the mom had to have a c-section.

I had in my mind that doulas can sometimes be kind of earthy and push the agenda of natural labor even to the point of exhaustion, but I couldn't have been more wrong.  Mandie was great at advocating for the health and well-being of the mother and helping her navigate what was best for her body, whether it was an epidural or holding out in natural labor a little longer.

So when Mandie asked me to take some headshots for she and Briana, her business partner, I was happy to oblige.

They are wearing their Rebozos which is a large scarf that can be wrapped around the belly or back to relieve pressure on a birthing mama.  It has a ton of great uses and it definitely part of the doula's bag of tricks. 

These two ladies are great at what they do and I think doulas are such an asset to the birthing process no matter if you take the natural route or if you choose to get an epidural.  They are vital and important and can make the process so much easier....especially for the dads.

Be on the lookout for these two ladies.  They are doing great things.  And they are having fun while they are doing it!

They wanted a picture of what is called the "hot box" where during birth in the intensity of everything you put the Rebozo (scarf) over your head and create a solitary place where you can completely focus.  Kinda cool, right!?

Rehabilitative Rhythms Music Therapy- Denver Photographer

Just this week I have done a 4 month session, a birth, a newborn session and this session with Rehabilitative Rhythms Music Therapy.  I love the diversity of my job!

When I was contacted about doing pictures for this company I was immediately intrigued.  I love music and it has made a profound impact on my life so I was interested to see what this company was all about.

I joined them for an hour long session with one of their little patients at their office.  I was instantly in love with this little boy and also his therapists.  This little guy was trained well and knew just what to do.  The hour long session was fun, entertaining and so interactive.  I can see how much good can be done when you pair music with therapy.

And then there is this guy!  This is the therapist's son but the other patient I was supposed to photograph was unable to come so Shane got to be our stand in.  How fun to be surrounded by music all the time at home and at Mommy's work.

Their work is very hands on and their joy is evident.  It is very obvious that they love their jobs.

I also visited them while they were working with a group of stroke patients.  Once again, their joy shines through.  They took turns working with the patients, singing with them and encouraging them to work their brain and muscles.  They tailored the music to the group and the patients LOVED it.

Look at these wonderful therapists.  They have lucky patients!

How to Improve Your Online Presence

Head shots.  They are becoming more and more necessary in this modern world of online presence.  It seems like every company is requiring head shots of their employees for websites or online purposes.  People are always wanting updated pictures for their LinkedIn, Facebook page or even an online dating site.  Who doesn't want an updated and flattering picture of themselves?  So often people use old, outdated pictures or pictures in which they have to crop other people out making them lesser quality or unflattering.

Here are some hints to make sure you are putting your best

 foot forward in your online presence.

1.  Don't use a picture that is outdated.  Make sure your picture is from the

 last year or so.  If your picture is more than 2 years old or if you have

 drastically changed your hair...it is time for a new one.

I changed my logo and my brand and had new head shots done to make

 my online presence more consistent.  Thanks to my friend Maren Miller for 

taking these pictures for me!  See....even photographers need to have head shots taken.

2.  Make sure it is a flattering picture.  Do you have 3 chins in the picture?  

Are you wearing your old, grubby clothes? 

 Then it is time to change your picture.

3.  Where was the picture taken?  Is the background cluttered or ugly.  

Does it cause your eye to go to the background of the picture instead of 

to your smiling face?  The background should be plain so as to draw the eye 

to your face.  Slightly off center is also nice for head shots.  It makes it feel higher 

quality and more pleasing to the eye.  Your face and upper body should be the largest 

thing in the picture.  Make sure it isn't a full body shot that shows 

more the background than you.

4.  Are you trying to look like a model with a pouty face?  Is it a selfie?  

Are you holding an alcoholic drink?  If so...that picture has to go!  

Make sure the picture shows your entire face and that you are

 smiling and look friendly in the picture.

5.  Is there another person in the picture with you?  Did you crop someone

 out of the picture?  That usually lowers the quality of the picture

 making it look old and unprofessional.

If you run your own business or people hire to you do a service for them, 

then you should have your head shots professionally done.  Those pictures

 should be on your email and on your website.  People feel more comfortable 

working with you if they can see a nice picture and have an idea of what you look like.  

It is worth the investment of having pictures done.  Trust me!
